Partner Campaign

You Can.

In 2018, the Washington State Department of Health launched the statewide cannabis prevention and education campaign: You Can. The campaign encourages teens to pursue their future dreams and immediate personal goals and aims to educate teens about the health effects and consequences of using cannabis.

You Can empowers young people to choose themselves, school, relationships, health, and safety over using cannabis.

Types of THC & Cannabis

All forms except topical marijuana are mind-altering (psychoactive).

Cannabis Flower

Cannabis Flower

Cannabis flower is a green, brown, or gray mixture of dried, shredded leaves, stems, seeds, and flowers of the hemp plant (Cannabis sativa or Cannabis indica). It goes by many different names, including: pot, herb, bud, weed, and grass. This form of cannabis is usually smoked, and, like tobacco smoke, cannabis smoke irritates the throat and lungs.

THC concentrates

THC concentrates

Made by extracting potent cannabinoids from the cannabis plant. They are usually consumed by vaporizing (vaping) the product. Marijuana concentrates are found in different forms and go by many different names, including: hash oil, tinctures, dabbing, dabs, shatter, CO2 oil, BHO, wax, budder, honey, honey oil, honeycomb oil, crumble, sap, and pull-and-snap. Marijuana concentrate users consume higher levels of the addictive ingredient in marijuana, THC, at faster rates. This can increase the chance of addiction. It can also lead to not-so-good effects.

THC-infused edibles

TCH-infused edibles

Edibles are food products (like cookies, brownies, drinks, and other snack foods) infused with THC. Eating marijuana can be very dangerous. This is because while the effects of smoking or vaping THC begin after only a few minutes, the effects of eating THC might not begin for 1-3 hours. Because the effects take longer to begin, a user may consume larger amounts of the drug while thinking the drug isn’t working. This can lead to overdose of marijuana.

Topical THC

Topical THC

Your body naturally creates some opioids. Endorphins are one type of endogenous opioid. They can be released in response to pain or during pleasurable activities such as eating or exercising.

Community Survey Results

According to the 2021 EPIC Community Survey, nearly 85% of local respondents believe that Marijuana use among community youth (6th-12th grade) is a moderate or serious problem.

Healthy Youth Survey Results

The Healthy Youth Survey (HYS) is a collaborative effort of the Office of the Superintendent of Public Instruction, the Department of Health, the Health Care Authority – Division of Behavioral Health and Recovery, and the Liquor and Cannabis Board.

The Healthy Youth Survey provides important survey results about the health of adolescents in Washington. County prevention coordinators, community mobilization coalitions, community public health and safety networks, and others use this information to guide policy and programs that serve youth. *Information provided by https://www.askhys.net/
