Why Does EPIC Exist?

In 2011, the Community Prevention and Wellness Initiative (CPWI) was formed in Washington. CPWI focuses on providing substance use prevention strategies through local coalitions.

EPIC was formed in 2012 after a survey identified Clarkston as having an above average rate of youth substance use compared to the state of Washington. The annual Community Survey helps to guide our work as we continue to work on lowering the rate of youth substance use.

Today, CPWI has coalitions in 100 communities across all 39 counties in Washington.

Since 2012, the EPIC coalition has focused on strategies to prevent youth substance use in our community. CPWI has several approved campaigns we use, including “Focus On”, “You Can” and “Start Talking Now”. In addition, EPIC hosts the Guiding Good Choices parent workshop and the Lions Quest program through the Boys and Girls Club of Lewis-Clark Valley.
